Erigel MPSA acts as sodium Natural montmorillonite with its triple – layer “sandwich” structure 2:1 which allows the adsorption of molecules between the layers, with adsorption of mycotoxins by its Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) through the surface contact provided by the size of particle and expansion capacity between layers.

Mycotoxins are produced by fungi secondary toxic metabolites. They are resistant to low and high temperatures, which withstand the processing conditions.

Mycotoxins have to be captured in the intestine of the animal to prevent its action. Erigel MPSA has a power greater uptake of 90% in aflatoxin B1.

Effects of natural sodium bentonite on aflatoxins and fumonisins

Tests on chickens showed the effects of natural sodium bentonite against aflatoxin and fumonisin (LAMIC, 2005).

The experiment evaluated the effects of three different treatments with aflatoxin (AFB1) and fumonisin (FS1) contamination with or without the addition of sodium bentonite (BS) the feed for 28 days. Twenty birds were used in each treatment.
